If a donor wishes to designate their gift to an area that’s not represented on the site by a main initiative or support area (sub-initiative), they can make their gift to a “fallback” area and specify the exact fund they wish to support.
A fallback campaign is a designation that will show by default when no other initiatives or support areas are returned in a donor's search query.
If you only have one fallback campaign, it will appear in the search if no other results are returned. For multiple fallback campaigns within a site, the donor will be able to select the main initiative to which the fallback campaign belongs. Example:
Apart from discovering the fallback campaign by searching and finding no matching results, the donor can select the fallback campaign from the donation form for the main initiative that it lives in. Example, the main initiative is Scholarships and the donor clicks the Donate button on that initiative’s page:
The donor is able to select a Campaign from the dropdown menu, which would include the fallback campaign as well as any other support areas.
Once selected, the initiative name will remain "Scholarships" but the “Add specific fund information” box appears. The donor will be required to specify their designation here.
Your Project Manager can enable the fallback functionality for your site. If you would like to use the fallback functionality, let your Project Manager know.
Once enabled for your site, you can create your fallback campaign as a support area through an individual initiative’s dashboard: support article here. When creating the support area, make sure to check the box next to “Other / Fallback profile” as shown below in the screenshot. "Show in Giving Day Search" should be unchecked, and you will not likely want to check “Create Giving Day Profile”.
