Note: This article is written for Giving Day hosts. If you are a participant or supporter of a Giving Day, this article may not pertain to your efforts.

The main role a fiscal sponsor plays on GiveGab is to submit their tax-deductible EIN, designate their organization representative, and provide their bank account information on behalf of an organization. This allows donors to make a donation to an organization, but the donor's receipt will include the fiscal sponsor's tax-deductible EIN, allowing them to submit their donation as tax-deductible (donors should always consult a tax professional to determine what portion of the donation, if any, may be claimed as a charitable deduction). The Fiscal Sponsor must be an organization that is eligible to receive tax-deductible donations.

As the host of a Giving Day, you can fiscally sponsor participating organizations directly through your Giving Day Partner Dashboard. By enabling this feature, an organization's donations will be funneled to your organization's bank account which you can then distribute as you choose. This feature only routes donations to your account for processing while donations are open for your Giving Day.

Note: If your Giving Day is "Centrally Routed" or, already Routing donations to a singular account, this feature is not applicable.

Step 1: Enable Fiscal Sponsorship Feature

To set up the fiscal sponsorship feature, your GiveGab Project Manager will need to enable it. Send your Project Manager a message to let them know you're interested in this feature. Keep in mind, that the feature will need to be manually enabled by your Project Manager each year. This fiscal sponsor feature will override the bank account information that is entered in the selected organization's profile for donations made through your Giving Day.

Step 2: Find the "Fiscally Sponsored" Column on your Giving Day Dashboard

Once your Project Manager enables the Fiscal Sponsor Feature, go to your Partner Dashboard. In the sidebar, click on "Manage Organizations," then "View Organizations." You'll notice a column labeled "Fiscally Sponsored."

Step 3: Apply Fiscal Sponsorship to a Participating Organization

Within this column, you can easily apply your fiscal sponsorship to the desired participating organization with the dropdown selection as shown in the screenshot below. Changing the Dropdown to "Yes" automatically allows you, the Partner, to accept donations on the organization's behalf.

Step 4: Optional Declaration of Fiscal Sponsorship

Since you can can apply fiscal sponsorship for organizations on your own, GiveGab does not need any documentation to formalize this relationship. However, if you would like to document your fiscal sponsorship of an organization, please see our sample letter below:

"[Official letterhead]

I am writing to inform you that we, [Fiscal Sponsor Name], are authorizing [Fiscally Sponsored Organizations] to fundraise under our organization, using our 501c3 tax-deductible status for [Giving Day]. Our EIN is [XX-XXXXXXX]. We understand we are responsible for all actions of [Fiscally Sponsored Organizations], while they participate in [Giving Event], or for the specified dates of [start date] through [end date], after which they are no longer authorized to fundraise under our EIN.

[Docu-Signature]"

If you are Fiscally Sponsoring a single organization, feel free to send the letter to the GiveGab Support team through this Single Organization form.

If you are Fiscally Sponsoring a multiple organizations, please send the letter to the GiveGab Support team through the Multiple Organization form.

Important to know:

  • This particular fiscal sponsor feature will override any bank account information that is entered in the organization's profile for donations made through that Giving Day. Once enabled, organizations will not receive bank account check emails from the Process Coordinator, if those are requested for that Giving Day (they will receive bank account check emails until Fiscal Sponsorship is enabled)

  • If recurring donations are allowed on your Giving Day, recurring donations will not continue when a fiscal sponsorship is set up through this feature.

  • When an organization is fiscally sponsored via the partner dash, their giving day dashboard won't show the "get verified to collect donations" section
