Note: This article is written for Giving Day hosts. If you are a participant or supporter of a Giving Day, this article may not pertain to your efforts.
To access your registration form before it's public, you'll use a special link based on a simple URL template. During testing, you'll complete a real registration using your nonprofit account. It helps to have two browser windows open and take a few setup steps first.
Prepping For Your Test
To stage the correct environment for your test, you'll want to take a few initial steps. Click each section below to read more:
Create a test registration type
Create a test registration type
If you are collecting registration fees, you won't want to charge yourself those same fees to test registration. Create a registration type for testing purposes only, with no cost associated. Set the cap to 1 registrant, which also prevents anyone else from using it by accident.
Remember: When you've completed testing and removed your registration, be sure to also remove any test registration types you created!
Locate your organization's unique URL on GiveGab
Locate your organization's unique URL on GiveGab
Open up a new tab, and go to your host organization's nonprofit dashboard on GiveGab. Locate the name of your organization in your browser's navigation bar, that will look like, "/your-nonprofit-name/
".
This portion of your URL is called a "slug", and it's going to tell the system which organization is associated with your registration.
This account would have been created soon after kickoff to collect your banking information in preparation for hosting the Giving Day.
Locate your unique Giving Day ID for this year
Locate your unique Giving Day ID for this year
Open another tab, and navigate to your organization's Partner Dashboard on GiveGab to collect the unique Giving Day ID for your current Giving Day. This is how the system knows which Giving Day to associate with your registration! Always double check that this is the correct ID so you don't test registration for the wrong year.
Once you've completed your prep work, follow the steps below!
Step 1: Generate your unique URL
Using the template URL below, plug in the Giving Day ID and slug you collected above in the bolded sections:
https://www.givegab.com/giving_days/[Giving Day ID]/groups/[Nonprofit-Slug]/register
Here is a sample of what your URL should look like:
https://www.givegab.com/giving_days/pawneegives2025/groups/jesses-joggers/register
Step 2: Open Your Registration Form to Test
Copy and paste the unique URL into your browser to open your test registration. This will bypass the search that organizations would normally use, and take you right to the form while registration is not yet publicly available.
As such, do not share this URL externally!
Step 3: Complete Your Registration Survey
Complete all of the fields in your registration form. Here's what we recommend you look out for:
Are there typos?
Are your questions clearly asked?
Are the available selections or field types correct?
Does the order of your questions make sense?
Are there any redundancies in what you're asking?
Pro Tip: This is the perfect place to collect strategic information for your Giving Day planning, but aim to streamline the information for successful completion. It's best to reduce the barrier to entry; ideally an organization can fill it out in a few minutes with information they have readily available, or were prepped to locate in advance.
Step 4: Complete Registration
Depending on the extent to which you'd like to test, you have 2 options moving forward:
To complete end-to-end testing and understand what happens after a registration form is completed, you can submit your registration.
You can simply preview the form, and skip submitting your registration. You won't preview the full experience, but will be able to review your survey.
Step 5: Review Registration Details
Check Your Organization's Dashboard:
If you are using the approval process, does the messaging on your dashboard appear correct?
Are you able to begin working on your profile?
Can you find where an organization should go to update their admins and contact information?
Check Your Giving Day Partner Dashboard:
Is your data populating accurately, and does it warrant any changes to your survey?
When you export your data, does the information look correct?
If you are using the approval process, does changing the approval status trigger the correct messages (email and dashboard)?
Step 6: Remove your registration
Once you've reviewed all of the information in both your partner and nonprofit dashboards, you can remove your registration.
Last, return to the Registration Setup section and remove any temporary registration types you created for testing.
If you accidentally paid the registration fee during your testing, please contact GiveGab support prior to removing your registration.
