Top Line Totals

Image depicting top line total stats on a giving day site. Stats read 30,360 donors, $13,438,850 raised, and 522 organizations participating.

Dollars Raised

The sum of the following types of gifts:

  • Online Donations

  • Offline donations

  • Match gifts

  • Donor Advised Funds (DAF) (if applicable)

  • Prizes (only if offline dollars have been entered for that prize via the Prize tab in the DMD)

Donors

Unique donors are identified by email address only. If a donor (user@givegab.com) gives to multiple organizations, they are counted as one unique donor for the global Giving Day stats.

Gifts (if applicable, generally replaces the donors stat)

The total number of single gifts given to all organizations, including offline gifts added to the Partner Dashboard (Prizes, DAF, General gifts to the Giving Day).

Organizations

The number of organizations that have received at least one gift.

Refresh Rate

Only ONLINE donation ($) amounts are updated in real-time.

Donor, Org Stats, Single Offline Gifts: 1-2 minutes max.

Explanation of live stats

Live stats were designed so that users can stay on the page and watch your totals increase in ‘real-time’. In the background, there is a ‘worker’ that runs every 1-2 minutes to calculate and cache totals for all three stats and stores that number in the database for your site to reference. Essentially, the worker does all the calculations and stores off that number so that the site simply displays it, therefore reducing load on the site. Organizations and Donors are not technically ‘live’, as they are refreshed when the worker runs and stores the new value.

When the page is refreshed or opened on a new browser/device, it will reflect the most-recently stored stats. If the user had been looking at the site, say, 20 seconds earlier and the worker had not yet stored updated information, the previously cached value would appear (which does not reflect the true running totals that are continuing to count up).). In this case, the total will start at the cached number, therefore looking like it has dropped from the last time you checked. This will be true until the live stats catch up and reflect the current dollars raised ($). From a user perspective, they will see the totals actively rolling up, eliminating the need to refresh the page. As a result, users will not refresh the page and this particular site behavior goes undetected.

Group/Organization Profile Stats

Raised

The sum of the following types of gifts:

  • Online Donations

  • Offline donations

  • Match gifts (excluding Patterson Match)

  • DAF

  • Prizes

Donors

Unique donors are identified by email address only. If one donor (user@givegab.com) gave once to Big Brothers Big Sisters AND the SPCA, they would count as a unique donor to each organization, but only once in the global totals. Offline and DAF gifts entered without an email address will be considered unique.

Refresh Rate

1-2 minutes

Leaderboards

This refers to the Leaderboards available on your site, both on the Home Page on the Giving Day, and the stand-alone Leaderboards Page. Depending on your leaderboard configuration, leaderboards could include the following stats: Dollars Raised, Donors, or Gifts. Below is the definition of each of these fields.

Raised

The sum of the following types of gifts:

  • Online Donations

  • Offline donations

  • Match gifts

  • Donor Advised Funds (if applicable)

  • Prizes

Donors

Unique donors as defined by email address only. These stats will follow the same calculation as the organization’s profile stats. For example, two gifts are given by the same donor’s email address. They will count as one donor. Offline and DAF gifts entered without an email address will be considered unique.

Gifts

The total number of gifts made to that organization, regardless of the donor's email address. Take the above example, there would be two gifts counted regardless of the same person or email address.

Refresh Rate

Typically 1-2 minutes, unless custom leaderboard work has been implemented. The refresh rate on custom leaderboard work may take longer depending on calculations used.
