1) How does GiveGab’s nonprofit verification process work?
To accept donations on GiveGab, all nonprofits must complete three verification steps:
• State Charitable Solicitation Compliance
Organizations must confirm they meet state fundraising requirements in any state where they solicit donations via GiveGab.
To do this, the organization must:
review the statement on the 'Bank Account & Verification' page
check the box to attest (i.e., declare) they are compliant with applicable laws
Nonprofits benefit from tax exemptions and public funding. Federal and state laws exist to ensure transparency and protect the public from misuse of those advantages. Read more about State Charitable Solicitation Registration and Compliance here.
• IRS Verification
Once bank and organization details are added, GiveGab automatically verifies the organization’s EIN against the IRS Pub 78 database. This typically happens within 24 hours.
Note: If your organization is a chapter, religious entity, or government agency, manual verification may be required. Connect with our Support team via the blue chat bubble in the lower right corner of the page or e-mail payments@bonterratech.com.
• Stripe Verification
Our payment processor, Stripe, verifies the organization's EIN and Organization Representative information. This process typically takes 48–72 business hours.
Stripe also checks:
OFAC’s Specially Designated Nationals list (to screen for ties to terrorism)
compliance with anti-money laundering regulations (e.g., US PATRIOT Act, KYC, BSA, OFAC)
2) What documentation is required for verification?
Required documentation varies by organization type:
Religious Organizations
must submit a PDF or online listing in a national religious directory or a charter letter from a governing body
Chapter-Based or Fiscally Sponsored Organizations
must submit a PDF of the parent organization's 501(c)(3) determination letter & a letter confirming your chapter/program status
Schools & Government Agencies
must submit a PDF or online listing from a public directory on official letterhead that outlines your statement of incorporation and ability to collect donations under the EIN of the school or agency
Fiscally Sponsored Organizations
must submit the fiscal sponsor’s 501(c)(3) letter as well as a signed fiscal sponsorship agreement
Small Nonprofits (<$5,000 annual revenue)
must submit the following:
a PDF letter from an affiliated third party confirming your purpose (e.g., PTA letter from a principal)
a letter on your organization’s letterhead declaring you are registering as a small nonprofit with a revenue under $5,000
3) Why is a copy of my ID required to update bank info?
To protect your organization, GiveGab requires a government-issued ID when updating bank account details.
Your ID will be uploaded securely and only accessed by GiveGab employees trained in security protocols.
Your ID will not be stored after the update is completed.
Once submitted, use the blue chat bubble to notify our Customer Support team for a live verification.
ID submissions are valid for 24 hours. Please be ready to chat after submission to avoid the need to re-upload your documentation.
Never send personal information via e-mail or chat - our team will provide you with secure forms to share sensitive data.
4) Who should complete the Organization Representative section?
The Organization Representative is the individual who authorizes updates on your organization's Bank Account & Verification page. This person is distinct from general admins.
Only one Organization Representative is allowed at a time.
This person should be an executive-level employee with financial oversight and long-term involvement.
They will need to provide:
Full name (as shown on their Social Security card)
Full Social Security Number (SSN)
Date of Birth
Full mailing address (no PO Boxes)
Phone number
Email
If the SSN cannot be verified, a government-issued photo ID will also be required.
This information is entered via a secure Stripe portal and used to comply with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) regulations.
